The Concept for the Development of Dental Services in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2024-2027

Abstract

The article discusses the problems and prospects of the dental service in the Kyrgyz Republic (KR), emphasizing the importance of oral health as an integral part of the overall well-being of the population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 3.5 billion people suffer from oral diseases, making them one of the most widespread non-communicable diseases. In 2021, WHO proposed shifting from treatment to prevention, confirming the need for reform in the dental service in KR. The article analyzes the current situation in the country's dental service, including the presence of state and private dental institutions, as well as issues related to staff shortages and insufficient funding. Special attention is given to the importance of preventive measures, especially among children, and the need to restore "school dentistry." The article also addresses problems caused by reforms in the sector that have reduced the effectiveness of dental care. The Global Oral Health Strategy, adopted at the 75th session of the World Health Assembly in 2022, serves as the foundation for further actions. This strategy emphasizes the importance of integrating dental care into the healthcare system and ensuring equal access to medical services for all segments of the population. The article highlights the need to develop clinical protocols and standards to improve the quality of dental care in the country.
